Shrove Tuesday

Also known as ‘Pancake Day’, can be a lot of fun and a wonderful opportunity for learning with children. Last week while observing a Teaching Assistant, I watched a group of year 2 children working collaboratively to make pancakes for group 30 children and teachers. Activities preceding the actual cooking and eating, provided learning opportunities for supporting mathematics, religious education, literacy and personal, social and emotional development.

The children like the young girl above were extremely please with their accomplishments. Our Barefoot story about ‘Mama Panya’s Pancakes‘ is a heart warming story about sharing and community, where the whole village gets involved. It also includes a failsafe recipe for perfect pancakes. What a lovely way to bond during half-term.
