Taking a few minutes from my pop up stall at the Georgian Village to share that today is European Day of Languages an annual celebration of european languages, organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union. Every year, since 2001 millions of people across 45 countries have been encouraged to ‘celebrate linguistic diversity in Europe and promote language learning’.
The general aims of the day include:
- Informing the public of the importance of language learning and its role in promoting intercultural understanding
- Promoting the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of european languages
- Encouraging lifelong language learning in and out of school
Having tried my hand at learning a European language or two, I found the information about the day particularly useful. More details about the day can be found here as well as fun ideas and activities for raising awareness of language learning. For multi-lingual books and interactive resources take a look at our online shop or visit one of our pop ups. Enjoy!
