Get set for World Book Day!

character-4Ready for World Book Day on 5th March? We’re enjoying preparing for this major celebration in the literary calendar and are making full use of the resources available from their website.

World Book day is an annual celebration where authors, illustrators, booksellers and publishers get together to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading from an early age, by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

We’re joining in the festivities by offering a £1.00 off selected stories from our extensive range of titles when you present your Book Token. Watch this space for details. The offer runs from the 2nd March 2015 to 29th March 2015.

Shrove Tuesday

Also known as ‘Pancake Day’, can be a lot of fun and a wonderful opportunity for learning with children. Last week while observing a Teaching Assistant, I watched a group of year 2 children working collaboratively to make pancakes for group 30 children and teachers. Activities preceding the actual cooking and eating, provided learning opportunities for supporting mathematics, religious education, literacy and personal, social and emotional development.

The children like the young girl above were extremely please with their accomplishments. Our Barefoot story about ‘Mama Panya’s Pancakes‘ is a heart warming story about sharing and community, where the whole village gets involved. It also includes a failsafe recipe for perfect pancakes. What a lovely way to bond during half-term.
